Police threaten arrest of prior tenants and supporters at Metrotown occupation

BURNABY: On the evening of Saturday July 9th police arrived at the Metrotown occupation of 5025 Imperial Street in Burnaby. Police threatened arrest of former tenants of three apartment buildings in the immediate area as well as supporters of the Stop Demovictions Burnaby Campaign, who have been occupying the previously evicted apartment building on Imperial.

The police threatened arrest under Section 35 of the Criminal Code, essentially citing a home evasion clause of the Criminal Code to justify arrest of former tenants and their supporters.

Also at the scene were representatives from Amacon, the development corporation that is demolishing the apartment building in order to erect condos for the wealthy. Amacon was escorted at the site by RCMP officers.
