Please join us for the Alliance’s monthly meeting.
The Social Housing Alliance monthly meeting for April will open with a presentation and discussion about the housing crisis for seniors in the
DTES and other parts of Vancouver. We will be joined by two guest speaker on seniors housing struggles, Gail Harmer from the Council of Senior Citizens Organizations, and King-mong Chan from the Carnegie Community Action Project, who has been organizing with Chinese seniors in the Downtown Eastside.
This meeting will also include some significant topics of discussion for the Alliance, including proposed actions around the apartment building facing demolition at Cambie and 7th Ave in Vancouver and a discussion with Pivot Legal about an anti-evictions campaign they are spearheading.
Throughout March the Steering Committee has been working on the membership and decision making structures of the Alliance, developed the first draft of a Housing Action Plan for Cities to challenge cities around BC to adopt for the upcoming municipal elections, and has also pitched a funding proposal for a research and organizing project. Those who have been working on these discussions hope to report on their progress, get some feedback on direction, and loop some more members into this work that could help define the future of our organization.
Hope to see you there!
