Was grateful to be invited to the CAPD meeting at the CIty of Victoria this past thursday, thanks Kelly, Mark, Lisa, Maryanne and others who helped make this quite an informative promising meeting. Many attended like Murray Rankins assistant Andrew and Shelly Gudgeon another City Councilor. We all spoke at length regarding the GNA (so called Good Neighbor Agreements which are exclusive and filled with stigma and judgement handed out in a charity model at its worse) and specifacly the contract agreements the GNA kind of forces upon communities (in my opinion and experience). Under the auspice of “we care and want all in neighbourhood to feel safe” they used police force to move homeless campers from the meridian in front of Our Place a few years back now. They used police force to remove homeless campers even before the bylaw folks liike Dr.Mathews (chair of the Pandora GNA group at the time of bylaw formation) bottom lined,
My heart is lifted up as I heard from person after person regarding intentions and that they need to be not discriminatory and made clear in this regard, completely remove CIty of Victoria form the GNA and completely throw out and actually recreate ones that ARE INCLUSIVE and filled with the desire to truly have safe space for all. For me and thousands of others “all” includes illicit drug users and their families and all othjers who fall to the streets due to pain in thier lives. I personally want a decriminilisationof all illicit drugs and being to truly care for all. I want a Safe Consumption SIte ten years ago and we must strike down the polcie use of Red Zones as UNCONSTITUTIONAL! That day is drawing near my friends. Empowerment is at our doors, shall we answer?
Also, our CTEHV created a campaighn SOCIAL HOUSING NOW and A GARANTEED LIVABLE INCOME NOW!
We had last year joined Social Housing Coalition now Social Housing Network (Alliance) and will relfect htis in a leaflet we are working on with Seb at VIPIRG. Today VIPOIRG organised our first leafletting with SOCIAL HOUSING NOW literature and banner (which was gifeted to us locally) we met at 12 noon and leafleted and showed our colors. It was great, others took turns holding banner sticks and leafletting while I did the dance to try and not have feet cramp up in this changing weather to snow again. We saw old friends, met new ones and even had one woman just say out “don’t try and shove anything down my throat.” Well, we were just standing five of us spread out and not in any ones way, offering leaflets and not trying to engage at all, actually. Just so you know, we are not forceful Kapitalist’s, we offer Social HOusing Now Organising and the idea that maybe now we must fifght for housing? Look around and see the growing numbers on streets. Just today I met a fellow with a back pack, never saw him before in my life, he says “I can’t affors an apartment, I am working and now homeless and on way to get a spot, I have to work.” He had a great smile and was the kind of fellow who was still able bodied enuff to deal as needed. Rents are unattainable to him and many more.
We finished up and had planned to meet atthe Idle No More event at Centenaial Square. I was enriched as I saw old friends and new friends, all fo us trying to stay warm. I sadly had to leave just after I got there as my feet began to threaten to cramp up again so, off I went and here I am.
We also had Veneuzuela folks meet up and discuss the current situation in their homelands as the right wing KKKapitalist’s try to grab hold as I write, even as Harper and other EU KKKapitalist’s support armed masked men on the ground in Kiev and they help take Kiev in an illegal take over, media are now blaming Russia for getting involved…its a downright mess! Local Polcie Chiefs support and listen to Harper, we are in a scarey 1984 themed experience and we best insure we are aware…We do not need police to take care of our poor and homeles, we need to house them, give htem proper care by profesional health care and front line workers, these NOT POLICE need to be first responders, not foot patrol with camera’s on jackets! They alread record all conversations anyways? camera’s need to be OUT AND OBVIOS in a free society, no?
So anyways, what a full day. VIctoria does have many who care enuff to come out in cold, even when its last minute, and represent best we can. It was an honor to see my AHousat sister whom is on thawVictoria youtube channell, she speaks from inside the chapel, she was in her regalia in the photo’s above! Was nice to see our sisters represnting from Our Place old skool family! Hi to Art and family who came out on such a cold day to represent! Yes, west coast cold gets into cree bones, I am not sure how to spell the word shooowhhhh. It was chilly!
Respect to those who represented, thanks to the organisers for todays Idle No MOre, it was an honor to see such youth involved! Leaders amoungst us.
